Whenever you write a blog post or article, you should follow this formula is you want it to rank high for a particular keyword in search engines.

1) Target only one key phrase as the primary target.  You can have a secondary phrase as well, but know which one is the main one.

2) Use your key phrase in the title of the post, including the meta data title and at least once in the meta description.  WordPress may automatically do this for you if you have WordPress configured well.

3) Use the key phrase once per 100 words in the article.

4) Write the article to be 300 to 500 words long.

5) Use the key phrase in the first and last sentence of the article, when possible.

6) Use some specific words related to the key phrase.  Use words from the key phrase in a different order when possible.

7) Do not be overly aggressive – too much actually makes the article rank lower.

This is the formula for success when it comes to writing a good SEO oriented blog post.

There are many ways to make an online income with blogs.

One blog cannot be all of these models, so you will need to select one or two formulas for blog success for any given blog.

The good news is that you can set up blogs for nearly no cost, which means you can use these different blog formulas for success to build different kinds of online revenue and be successful.

Some of these strategies work much better than others.  However, I always remind myself that even if I blog only makes $20 a year, that is probably a 100% profit if I do not have to do anything for that revenue once it is set up.

If [Your Time Value] + [Your Cost] < [Your Revenue] you have a winner.  Rarely can you quit your job with one blog, but you can make money.

Some models for blogs that make positive revenue include:

1. Membership Sites – If you use a simple WordPress Membership Plugin you can create a very profitable membership website.
2. Affiliate Marketing – Your blog can attract people that will sign up on your email list and then buy products via affiliate networks from you, earning you a commission.
3. Ads and AdWords – Blogs can easily pay for themselves with ads or Google Adwords.  This will not make you rich but over time tends to increase.
4. Expert Status – You can use your blog to demonstrate your expertise in an industry and this formula for success can lead to speaking fees, book deals, etc.
5. Product Sales – Beyond affiliate sales, you can also develop your own products and even build an entire shopping cart on top of your blog.

There are other ways to monetize blogs as well.  Blogs are an essential part of a lead generation formula for success that many companies use.

Whenever you are creating a revenue formula, you need to analyze it and ask certain questions to make sure you have a true formula for success.

These are some of the things you need to consider.

1. Can Someone Else Do It?
   If someone else cannot do it you have not documented the formula for success well enough.  Once you have documented it and someone else can do it, then you have the power to scale the formula up or even spin it off and move on to building your new formula.
2. Is It Measurable?
   If you cannot measure and review every step in your formula for success, then you will not know if it is succeeding or know how to fix it if it is failing.  This is especially true with building online businesses.
3. Is It Realistic?
   Just because you put your model into a formula for success does not mean it is going to be successful.  Did you set realistic goals and expectations from the beginning and are you sure you can drive traffic into your formula?
4. Is There a Clear Path to Revenue?
   You do not want to work hard on making your online formula a success only to realize you did not do a good job of monetizing it.  There are many ways to monetize traffic and you should know all the different ways to do that so your formula will produce successful income streams.

These are just four things that you should ask yourself when you build a model that is going to become your online formula for success.

If you want to succeed online you are going to have to do more than just learn a lot of skills and jump around from thing to thing and try to make money online.

Instead, you need to think out a formula for success.  If you document your success formula, you can then test your success and analyze the outcome.  Yes, this is a lot more work, but you will either get the results you want, or you will not and you will be able to see at what point along the formula you failed.  Then you test some changes and keep improving and testing your online business formula until it is perfected.

This the the same strategy that large companies use when they set up LSS – which stands for Lean Six Sigma.  This, in its simplest form, is designing a process and continuing to monitor that process and refine it until it runs near perfection.

Whenever you begin trying to make money online you need to think out your formula, which is much like a business plan, but more of a series of steps to follow and less like a set of financial projections that you hope to hit.

The beauty of designing a formula for success is that you can sell it as an information product later on.

What many people do instead is they do not have a concrete plan of steps (actions) to take that will produce measurable, repeatable outcomes.
